A certain stock may be considered to be on an uptrend if trading above a moving average and the average is sloping upward. On the other side, a stock may be considered to be in a downtrend if trading below the moving average and sloping downward.

Equity Rundown: RSI and CCI Check on WisdomTree DEFA Equity Income (DTH)

Investors and traders often look to technical stock analysis in order to better evaluate the equity. A CCI reading over +100 would suggest that the stock is overbought and possibly ready for a correction. On the flip side, a reading of -100 would imply that the stock is oversold and possibly set for a rally.

A commonly used tool among technical stock analysts is the moving average. Moving averages are considered to be lagging indicators that simply take the average price of a stock over a certain period of time. Moving averages can be very useful for identifying peaks and troughs. They may also be used to assist the trader figure out proper support and resistance levels for the stock. Wilder introduced RSI in his book “New Concepts in Technical Trading Systems” which was published in 1978. RSI measures the magnitude and velocity of directional price movements. The data is represented graphically by fluctuating between a value of 0 and 100. The indicator is computed by using the average losses and gains of a stock over a certain time period. RSI can be used to help spot overbought or oversold conditions. An RSI reading over 70 would be considered overbought, and a reading under 30 would indicate oversold conditions. A level of 50 would indicate neutral market momentum.

Dedicated investors may be looking to employ another tool for doing technical stock analysis. The Williams Percent Range or Williams %R is a technical indicator that was designed to measure overbought and oversold market conditions. The Williams %R indicator helps show the relative situation of the current price close to the period being observed. WisdomTree DEFA Equity Income (DTH)’s Williams Percent Range or 14 day Williams %R presently is at -27.08. In general, if the reading goes above -20, the stock may be considered to be overbought. Alternately, if the indicator goes under -80, this may show the stock as being oversold.

We can also take a look at the Average Directional Index or ADX of the stock. For traders looking to capitalize on trends, the ADX may be an essential technical tool. The ADX is used to measure trend strength. ADX calculations are made based on the moving average price range expansion over a specified amount of time. ADX is charted as a line with values ranging from 0 to 100. The indicator is non-directional meaning that it gauges trend strength whether the stock price is trending higher or lower. The 14-day ADX for WisdomTree DEFA Equity Income (DTH) presently sits at 26.54. In general, and ADX value from 0-25 would represent an absent or weak trend. A value of 25-50 would indicate a strong trend. A value of 50-75 would indicate a very strong trend, and a value of 75-100 would signify an extremely strong trend.

Column: Do work worth working for

“The newspaper is no place for someone who likes it soft.”

In 1967, The Macon Telegraph advertised an open position in the newsroom with this explicitly ominous and implicitly creepy sentiment, positioned under an equally welcoming bold sans-serif title stating, “Considering a newspaper career? Be prepared to eat a cold supper once in a while.” All of that is above an image of a soldier draining a canteen.

It seems like a counterintuitive way for The Macon Telegraph to recruit a staff, and it may seem like a counterintuitive anecdote to begin this call to action to apply to work for The Daily Tar Heel.

But the ad goes on: “Newspaper work is hard and challenging, intellectually and physically. But there are rewards — good financial rewards” (I think this might have been a joke, even in the ’60s) “and other rewards too. The newspaperman knows he contributes to keeping people informed, and no society can remain free without information.”

The ad ends with instructions to write in for a free booklet on newspaper careers “if you think these things are worth working for.”

The DTH is an office of people who, though we come from different backgrounds and beliefs and majors and mindsets, know these things are worth working for. It’s an office where it’s acknowledged that “newspaper work is hard and challenging,” but it’s an atmosphere that cultivates learning, fosters development and contributes to our community.

The Macon Telegraph ad is admittedly cheesy and incredibly, optimistically noble in its colorful proclamations about the role of newspaper work. Am I taking it too seriously? The same paper ran an ad the same year listing a job raising chinchillas.

But I get pretty cheesy and overly noble when I try to put into words the work that the DTH does for its community.

In my tenure at this paper, no matter what I was doing, it felt exciting if I was doing it for the DTH.

Whether I was jumping in to help with breaking news or editing the grammar of a routine news brief, it kept me from feeling like a bystander in my community.

When I felt bogged down by homework or in a creative slump or worn out from the election cycle, the DTH provided me with a clear conduit to help my efforts, passions and enthusiasm directly affect my community.

At the DTH, I work with people worth working for, who inspire and educate me with their work ethic and pursuit of truth, and I work for a community worth working for, a collective of students and activists and residents who strive to see Chapel Hill at its best.

There are a lot of ways to work for what you think is worth working for in Chapel Hill. And if you think that way might be through The Daily Tar Heel, the application to join the DTH is due by 4 p.m. on Jan. 21.

DTH at a Glance: Oversharing is caring

Danny Nett

Good morning, and oh my god how is it only Wednesday please help me

With the division between Student Congress and GPSF officially happening, you would expect awkward post-breakup emotions to be high in their first meetings since the split. Student Congress, who wanted to work things out, was open to talking about things — like a certain possibly-hypothetical ex from first year who still posts on Tumblr about you even though you haven't hung out in two and a half years.

And graduate student government completely ignored everything about the situation, refused to make eye contact or laugh at Student Congress' jokes and acted as though they'd never even met.

Tag yourself; I'm GPSF.

Doordarshan to offer 104 DTH channels from March-end

Hyderabad: To expand its DTH platform, Doordarshan plans to come out with new set-top boxes having MPEC-4 technology and provide 104 channels by March-end, its Director General Supriya Sahu said on Sunday.

'Free Dish,' its DTH platform, at present has 20 million subscribers, and is the market-share leader among the seven DTH players in the country, she said.

"The new initiative is that we are introducing conditional access system in our set-top boxes. We are getting into a new technology which is MPEC-4. So by March-end, we will be coming out with new set-top boxes for Doordarshan enhancing the number of existing channels from 80 to 104," Sahu told PTI.

She also said five channels of Doordarshan - National, News, Sports, Kisan and local – are now available through digital terrestrial transmission (DTT). "DTT is already available in 16 cities.

By the end of March this year, DTT will be available in Hyderabad, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram. By 2018, other 44 cities will become digital (where DTT will then be available)," she said.

DTT allows Doordarshan viewers to watch channels for free on their Android mobile phones with a small dongle (available online and at some shops), and no internet or data connectivity is needed, said Sahu.

She was here in connection with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union's first edition of international television film festival, hosted by Prasar Bharati.

"We have capacity for ten channels (through DTT)," she said, adding that once IIM Ahmedabad, entrusted with the task of preparing a business plan on DTT roadmap, gives its report by March first week, Doordarshan would decide on its strategy of providing additional five channels through DTT.

DTH at a Glance: Feat. Your word is 'apiculture'

Good morning, and happy Friday the 13th!

If you're needing a pick-me-up at the end of a long week, I have a fun fact to make you feel better about yourself and also introduce some new research from N.C. A&T that might solve peanut allergies. For the first 21 years of my life, I managed to make it through without any food allergies, unless you count penicillin as food. All of that came to a screeching halt last semester, about 45 minutes into an otherwise cute excursion with a boy in downtown Durham when I got brave and tried date-flavored gelato for the first time.

I had an allergic reaction and pretended it wasn't happening for almost two hours until I was back at my house. Which is is the story of how I found out I am technically literally allergic to dates.
